Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
Platelet rich plasma is a natural and non-surgical hair loss treatment option. It may benefit those who are not candidates for hair transplant surgery or medication. PRP is a growth factor-rich blood fraction created from a patient’s own blood (autologous), and is injected superficially into areas of thinning. This may decrease shedding and increase hair growth by enhancing stem cell activity.
Both men and women can benefit from PRP treatments. PRP can be combined with other hair restoration options to round out a hair loss management program. It is safe for a majority of individuals, excluding those with underlying disorders that may reduce the effectiveness, or those taking oral medications such as blood thinners.

Platelet Rich Plasma Procedure Details
After assessing candidacy, Dr. Haber will draw the patient’s blood, which is spun in a centrifuge to separate out the platelets and plasma. The growth factor-rich PRP portion is then injected into specific areas of the scalp. Discomfort and pain is minimal during the procedure, but we also offer distracting elements or mild sedation upon request. There is no downtime, and patients can return to normal activity after the procedure.
Three monthly treatments are administered. Additional treatments will be performed every six months for optimum results.
What Results Can Patients Expect from PRP?
Platelet rich plasma can be very effective depending on the underlying cause of the hair loss. Patients can expect the benefits of the PRP treatment to be visible within 3 months. Candidates with more recent hair loss and thinning may experience better results than those who have already experienced significant loss. Study have shown a clinical improvement in the number of hairs and density in areas treated with PRP.
